With a presence spanning multiple sectors in the UAE, from aviation to hospitality, Tata’s vision is deeply embedded in the fabric of the region’s economy. UAE business leaders, many of whom had the privilege to interact with Tata, have paid heartfelt tributes to the man who embodied humility, ethical leadership, and a relentless drive for excellence.
Humility in Greatness: Tata’s Enduring Legacy in the UAE
The Tata Group, a $365 billion (Dh1.34 trillion) conglomerate, has a formidable presence in the UAE, with 25 companies employing over 17,000 people across the Middle East. From flying with Air India or Air India Express, to staying at a Taj hotel, or driving a Range Rover, UAE residents have benefitted from Tata’s far-reaching vision.
Sunil Sinha, Director of Tata International West Asia, who worked with Tata for 40 years, shared memories of the business titan, highlighting his unwavering principles. “I had the opportunity to work with him on several occasions. He was a man of few words, never imposing his thoughts on colleagues. His focus was always on doing the right thing and maintaining the highest ethical standards,” Sinha reflected.
Tata’s humility shone through in the simplest acts. “Despite his stature, he never jumped queues at airports or hotels. He waited his turn, reflecting a humility that was rare for someone of his prominence,” Sinha added.
A Mentor for Generations
Tata’s leadership has left an indelible mark on business leaders worldwide, including many in the UAE. Tata’s legacy in healthcare is especially profound, with initiatives supporting cancer research, rural healthcare, and the establishment of advanced medical facilities across India. These contributions have created lasting benefits for underserved communities, further cementing Tata’s role as a leader who prioritized societal good.
A Global Ambassador for India
Rizwan Sajan, Chairman and Founder of Danube Group, lauded Tata’s role in putting India on the global map. “Through his entrepreneurial spirit and leadership, Tata brought global recognition to India. His lessons in business and life will continue to inspire generations,” Sajan said.

Tata’s leadership of the group from 1991 to 2012 transformed it into a global powerhouse. By 2023-24, 50% of Tata Group’s revenue came from international operations, and the company employed over one million professionals worldwide. Despite his extraordinary achievements, Tata famously avoided fancy billionaire lists, focusing instead on building a legacy of integrity and compassion.
A Legacy That Lives On
Kamal Vachani, Group Director and Partner of Al Maya Group, echoed the sentiments of many by saying, “Tata will remain in the hearts of the people of India for his contributions to the country and its communities.”
