String of Bomb Threats Targets Indian Airlines, Prompting Increased Security Measures
An IndiGo flight en route from Mumbai to Delhi was diverted to Ahmedabad on Wednesday following a security-related alert, according to a spokesperson from the airline. In response to the situation, the aircraft was promptly isolated upon landing, and all passengers were safely disembarked. Authorities are currently investigating the nature of the alert.
This incident comes on the heels of a similar scare on Tuesday when another IndiGo flight from Dammam, Saudi Arabia, bound for Lucknow was diverted to Jaipur due to a bomb threat. After a thorough inspection by the bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) and sniffer dogs, no suspicious objects were found on board.
The diversion of these flights is part of a growing number of bomb threats directed at Indian airlines in recent days. Between Monday and Tuesday alone, more than 10 bomb threats were reported, many of which were posted on social media by unverified accounts that have since been suspended.
In response to these events, Indian aviation authorities are convening a high-level meeting to address the surge in security threats and to evaluate the current safety protocols to ensure the continued safety of passengers and crew. The increasing number of incidents has led to heightened security measures across airports and airlines in India, with authorities working diligently to ensure that air travel remains safe.
